It all started about the time when I started dating Tatianna in Australia second half of 2007. I lost a usb pendrive in the computer lab where I was working. I lost it there at 8 PM and got back to the lab at 10 AM the next day but the pendrive was gone and never showed up at the lost & found office. So did one of my favorite sweaters I left at the same lab.
Later I was sailing from Brisbane to Sydney on board the Koomooloo and got a sheet telling how many nautical miles I traveled with them and that I was an important part of the crew and so on which I wanted to use as proof of my experience to get my next sailing licence, the Sportseeschifferschein, I'm going to start working on this winter. Guess what, I lost it.
During a train ride someone stole my external harddrive right out of my bag, I think. It's the only explanation I have. Well, I could easily replace it. It costed about AU$200, so it doesn't hurt too much in terms of material value. But I had like 500 photos on it I haven't copied on my laptop yet. Luckily I could recover some pictures from my SD-card because I only fast-reformated it and took some 30 pictures. So most of the pictures are still on it. Unfortunately most of them are corrupted.
Between loosing my external harddrive and recovering my pictures I couldn't find my sailing gloves anymore and was sailing with a Laser on the Alster. And it happened as I saw it coming, I scraped off the skin on my thumbs.
And today, right when I was recovering the pictures, I recognised that my server was reacting very sluggish. I guessed it was due to a recent kernel update and a reboot might solve the issue. But I was wrong. The Seagate harddrive gave up and stopped working. So now I got about 300GB data on a dead harddrive. Luckily most of it is backups and movies I won't miss much and I got a copy of the rest on my laptop. So tomorrow I'll buy a new harddrive and set-up my slug from scratch. But now I don't have any place left to store my backups on. Great. Tomorrow my laptop will die and I would want to restore my backup I did tonight, I could bet.
So right now I'm a little bit pissed off. Anyone who knows how to repair harddrives which only report "Buffer I/O error on device sdX, logical block <number>" and are not recognised by the BIOS anymore?
Usually I say all this bad luck is to balance out the luck I had when I met Tatianna. Well, I must have been way luckier than I imagined
Anyone noticed I changed my blog to English? Some non-German friends were complaining...
